Events on the Square

August 7, 2014 @ 9:00 am - 5:00 pm
On August 7, join us on the Cincinnati skyline. Together we will rappel to raise awareness and funding to support Shatterproof’s mission and programs.
Shatterproof’s message has been resonating emotionally: “We’ve all watched people walk, or run, on behalf of those with heart disease, cancer, autism, and other diseases. As we rappel, Americans will watch people unite on behalf of those with the disease of addiction — and their loved ones. We are coming together to increase awareness and funding for the prevention, treatment, and recovery of this disease. We will end the silence, shame, and stigma which has kept the suffering closeted for so long.”
How to Rappel
Participants will rappel under the careful supervision of experts from Over the Edge. Over the Edge operates approximately one hundred events each year for organizations like the Special Olympics, Make-A-Wish, the Boy Scouts, and Shatterproof.
Those who wish to join us can do so with three easy automated steps:
- Register here or click the “Register to Rappel!” button.
- Set up a fundraising page.
- Fundraise $1,000 or more.
No prior rappelling experience is necessary. We provide all the equipment and you’ll have a training session with the expert rope specialists from Over the Edge before your big moment. All participants receive photos and a souvenir event shirt. Anyone who weighs between 110 and 300 pounds may participate. Minors under 18 can join in if a parent or guardian signs their waiver.

Sponsor a Young Adult in Recovery
“One voice is a mere whisper. A chorus of voices can change the world.” With each participant, our message is that much louder. Those who wish to sponsor someone in recovery can read about some of the young people participating in the Shatterproof Challenge and make a donation here or by contacting us atShatterproofChallenge@shatterproof.org.
In 2012, Gary Mendell, a member of the Clinton Health Matters Initiative, founded Shatterproof to educate, empower and equip families, educators, health care providers, legislators and others to proactively address addiction among children and young adults. Mendell and his team are building a national organization to bridge serious gaps in funding and resources for the disease of addiction. His son, Brian Mendell, lost his battle with addiction at the age of 25 in 2011.
