OTR Night at the CSO: Friday, May 3 starting at 6 pm in Washington Park

The Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra celebrates our city and our neighborhood!

Join friends and neighbors for pre- and post-concert fun in Washington Park. Sandwiched in the middle is an incredible concert with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra in Music Hall! Tickets for the concert start at $10. Pre- and post-concert fun in Washington Park is free and open to all. CLICK HERE to add the event to your calendar!

Pre-concert – 6-8pm: Food trucks by Night Owl Market in Washington Park, “The Music Ride”  (bicyclists riding around OTR with a musical interlude!), and a Yelp “Name That Tune” booth. There is also a free bike valet if you feel like biking to Music Hall that day.

CSO concert – 8-10 pm: Join us inside Music Hall for a program featuring the work of American composers, including Samuel Barber’s Piano Concerto with famed pianist Garrick Ohlsson, and Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Jennifer Higdon’s All Things Majestic, set to iconic imagery of our city and our neighborhood. Post-concert – 10-11 pm: Free live music in Washington Park with The Young Heirlooms,food trucks by Night Owl Market, and Washington Park concessions will be open. ArtWorks hires emerging and professional artists and art educators to work as Teaching Staff on public art projects during its Summer and After-School Programs.  Teaching Staff are employed to mentor and manage dedicated groups of 14-21 year-old Apprentice Artists to produce high-quality works of art.  ArtWorks projects are public and most are in the visual arts.

ArtWorks’ Programs emphasize team-teaching. The ratio of Professional Artists to Apprentices Artists is small, typically 1:4 for hands-on learning. As in traditional apprenticeships, Professional Artists lead the project design and are greatly involved in the artistic outcome so that Apprentices learn specific skills and techniques. Each project will have a Project Manager and a support staff made up of Teaching Artists.  Each member of the teaching team is required to lead by example and model professionalism to the Apprentice Artists through conduct, attitude, attendance and punctuality and to perform all assigned tasks with integrity and a positive work ethic.

Between January 1 and February 28, the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County is looking to discover new and talented poets from the Cincinnati Region. Adults, ages 18 and up, are invited to enter the Library’s second annual Poetry Contest!

THE RULES

• Entries must be submitted using this online form, between January 1 and February 28, 2013.
• Each poet may submit no more than one poem.
• Poems must be unpublished and original content.
• Poems must be suitable for a general audience.
• Poems must be submitted in a Word document, no longer than one column on an 8.5 x 11 page in length, and typed in at least a 12pt font.

Entries that are not in compliance with these rules are subject to disqualification.

The entries will be judged in March by a committee comprised of professional poets and literary professionals. Judging will be anonymous and the judges’ decisions are final. Up to four winners will have their poem published on our website in April and will be given the opportunity to read at the Main Library’sPoetry in the Garden series, which is held Tuesday evenings in April.
