Fritz from Eepybird sets up the "Bellagio" display before the record attempt
World Record-Setting EventMay 24, 2007
Mentos® and Eepybird made Mentos Geyser history in Cincinnati, Ohio on May 24, 2007. That’s when Eepybird, with the help of about 500 Greater Cincinnatians equipped with the new “Mentos Geyser Loading Tube,” launched the largest number of Mentos Geysers to be set off all at once in one location to set the first world record in this category. The extravaganza took place on Fountain Square in downtown Cincinnati with the beautiful Tyler Davidson Fountain as backdrop.
Eepybird became famous in Summer 2006 with their Mentos Geyser video, “Experiment #137,” a quirky homage to the “Bellagio Fountain” in Las Vegas. (You can see the video at www.eepybird.com.) On May 24, Eepybird performed their famous geyser experiment in Cincinnati before thousands of spectators. Then they led the crowd in creating synchronized Mentos Geysers on Fountain Square, setting the first-ever Guinness Book of records for “Most Mentos and Soda Fountains.”
Mentos registered 500 people on-site to participate in the event. Each participant received a gift bag containing candy, the Mentos Geyser Loading Tube, goggles, and a rain slicker. “What could be fresher than hundreds of Mentos Geysers set off in Fountain Square on a beautiful spring evening—while setting a world record in the process?!” said Pete Healy, Vice President Marketing at Perfetti Van Melle USA, distributor of Mentos, before the event. “We’re looking forward to a great turnout and a whole lot of bubbly, record-making fun!” Perfetti Van Melle USA is headquartered in Erlanger, Kentucky, where it produces and distributes AirHeads bars, AirHeads Xtremes, and Mentos. The company is part of Perfetti Van Melle, a privately-owned company that produces and distributes candies and chewing gums in more than 130 countries around the world, including Mentos, Frisk mints, and Fruittella soft-chew candies. |
