A Fountain You Can Play In

A new water feature east of the Tyler Davidson Fountain lets kids and adults put their hands in a sheet of water and see what patterns they can make in the flowing stream. Kids also love playing in the pop-jets spouting from the granite floor. The water here is fresh water, not chlorinated, so it's safe if a child accidentally drinks some.

And This Song of the Vine…
Engraved to the right of the water wall is the last stanza of “Catawba Wine,” a poem written by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow in the 1850s, when Nicholas Longworth’s vineyards covered the hills east of downtown. The font has been chosen to match that of the Tyler Davidson Fountain’s inscription "To The People of Cincinnati." It reads:

And this Song of the Vine,
This greeting of mine,
The winds and the birds shall deliver
To the Queen of the West,
In her garlands dressed,
On the banks of the Beautiful River.
